Indians receive most UK work visas: Report

Indian nationals received 22% of all work visas issued by the UK last year, which is the highest share globally, The Economic Times reports, citing Home Office data.

Out of 369,419 work visas overall, Indians received 81,463 — much ahead of countries like Nigeria, Philippines, Pakistan, and Zimbabwe.

the number of UK work visas granted to Indians reduced by 50% year-on-year, mainly due to changes in immigration rules in early 2024, the report says.

Meanwhile, Indian students accounted for the second-highest share of UK student visas last year, behind China.

The recently signed India-UK FTA will allocate an additional 1,800 visas annually for Indians to work in the UK.
