Toy Soldiers Unite: Hypercharge: Unboxed Finally Invades PS5 and PS4 Next Month

Digital Eclipse’s nostalgic action figure shooter Hypercharge: Unboxed is finally making its way to PlayStation consoles after successful runs on other platforms. The unique blend of tower defense and shooter mechanics will officially launch for PS5 and PS4 on May 30, 2025, giving PlayStation owners the chance to experience this toy-themed adventure.
Toys Come to Life in Cross-Genre Adventure
Hypercharge puts players in control of action figures defending “Hypercores” from waves of weaponized toys commanded by the villainous Major Evil. The game seamlessly blends first and third-person shooting with strategic tower defense elements, all wrapped in a package dripping with nostalgic toy aesthetics.
“We’ve been excited to bring Hypercharge to PlayStation players for some time,” a representative told us. “The game combines the childhood fantasy of toys coming to life with modern shooter mechanics and strategic defense elements.”
Players can tackle the game’s story-driven campaign solo with AI companions or team up with friends through online or local split-screen co-op for up to four players. The game also offers competitive multiplayer modes including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Battery, Infection, and King of the Hill for up to eight players online.
Feature-Rich Package Without Microtransactions
One standout feature of Hypercharge is its commitment to a complete experience out of the box. Unlike many modern titles, all content is unlockable through gameplay with no microtransactions in sight. Players can customize their action figures, weapons, and skins entirely through in-game achievements.
The PlayStation 5 version will take advantage of the DualSense controller’s vibration functions, while the PS4 release supports the DUALSHOCK 4’s vibration capabilities. Online multiplayer requires PlayStation Plus subscription, but the game fully supports offline play with progression and unlocks intact.
At launch, PlayStation players will enjoy cross-play compatibility with PC and Xbox communities, with Nintendo Switch cross-play planned for a future update.
Community Reception and Expectations
Hypercharge: Unboxed has received positive reception on other platforms, particularly for its nostalgic toy-inspired visuals and accessible gameplay. Some players have noted that the tower defense mechanics might not appeal to traditional shooter fans, but the PlayStation launch is expected to bring a fresh wave of players to the community.
The core gameplay loop involves defending Hypercores across varied toy-themed environments while collecting resources to build and upgrade defenses including turrets, traps, and barriers. Between defense waves, players can explore the intricately detailed miniature worlds.
