Raccoon Logic Launches Revenge of the Savage Planet This Week With Game Pass Day One Availability

Quirky sci-fi adventure brings third-person perspective and enhanced co-op to Xbox, PlayStation, and PC platforms
Raccoon Logic’s highly anticipated sequel to their 2020 cult hit arrives this week, bringing expanded alien worlds, creature collection, and both local and online multiplayer options to players across all platforms.
What You Need to Know
Revenge of the Savage Planet launches on May 8, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. The sequel represents a significant evolution from its predecessor, shifting to a third-person perspective while doubling down on the original’s satirical corporate humor and exploration-focused gameplay.
Most notably for Xbox players, the game will be available day one on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, making it immediately accessible to subscribers without additional purchase.
“We’ve expanded every aspect of the original game,” said Alex Hutchinson, Creative Director at Raccoon Logic (formerly of Ubisoft, where he directed Assassin’s Creed 3 and Far Cry 4). “More planets, more creatures to capture, more bizarre corporate dystopia to navigate, and most importantly, more ways to play together.”
A Vengeful Return to Space
Revenge of the Savage Planet casts players as former employees of Alta Interglobal, abandoned on an alien planet after a colonization mission was deemed too expensive to continue. The narrative follows Kindred Aerospace CEO Martin Tweed as he seeks revenge against rival CEO Gunther Harrison, with players exploring vibrant alien ecosystems while crafting tools and capturing wildlife in hopes of eventually returning to Earth.
The game expands significantly on the original with four uniquely designed planets, each filled with distinctive flora and fauna. Players will run, jump, shoot, grind, stomp, dodge, slide, whip, grapple, and use a lasso to capture dozens of alien creatures, which can be relocated to pens near your habitat in “scenic Nu Florida.”
Co-op Takes Center Stage
One of the most significant upgrades comes in the multiplayer department, with Revenge of the Savage Planet offering both online co-op with full crossplay functionality across all platforms and local split-screen co-op—a feature increasingly rare in modern releases.
The addition of local split-screen specifically addresses community feedback from the original game, which offered online co-op but lacked same-screen play. Raccoon Logic has also promised improvements to the online experience, addressing issues that some players encountered with the first game’s multiplayer implementation.
Game Pass Leads May’s Lineup
Revenge of the Savage Planet headlines an impressive May for Xbox Game Pass, landing ahead of DOOM: The Dark Ages (May 15) and indie darling To a T (May 28). Its day-one availability makes it one of the service’s standout additions for the month.
Players looking for early access can purchase the digital Cosmic Hoarder Edition, which grants entry beginning May 5 (three days early) along with bonus missions and additional items. A physical Day One Edition is also available, featuring an exclusive “Hot Wizz” spacesuit and a scratch ‘n’ sniff art card.
Studio Revival Story
The game’s development represents a remarkable comeback story for the team. Originally founded as Typhoon Studios, the developer was acquired by Google for its Stadia platform before being shut down during Google’s gaming retreat. The team reformed as Raccoon Logic and managed to retain the rights to the Savage Planet IP, allowing them to continue the series independently.
First revealed at Gamescom Opening Night Live in August 2024, the sequel has steadily built anticipation through showcases at IGN FanFest and ID@Xbox events.
The Bottom Line
For fans of the original’s irreverent humor and exploration-driven gameplay, Revenge of the Savage Planet appears to deliver more of what made the first game a cult hit while addressing key feedback with its third-person perspective and enhanced co-op features. Game Pass subscribers get the added benefit of day-one access without additional purchase, making this quirky sci-fi adventure an easy recommendation for those looking for something different among May’s releases.
Revenge of the Savage Planet launches May 8, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC, with Cosmic Hoarder Edition early access beginning May 5.
